Summary

Sarah, Plain and Tall was about a family living at Prairie in America. In a small house lived a young girl, Anna, her little brother, Caleb and their father, Jacob. One day Jacob informed his children that he had put an advertisement in the paper for a wife. The woman had written a response. Her name was Sarah. They all wrote her letters and she wrote back and decided to come and stayed with them for a month. She came in the spring. She was being introduced to in the prairie. She learned how to plow a field, how to ride horse and handle the wagon on her own. Then Sarah wanted to leaves for town. Caleb thought that she is not coming back because she didn’t like the family anymore, but she did come back and living together.

CAUSATIVE 'HAVE' AND 'GET'

It is the statement or sentences used to order someone to do something.

There are 3 kind form of causative

1. Causative used get with man as object

The formula is

S + get (gets/got) + man + to infinitive

For example:

• Yesterday, I got Robik to wash my car

• The teracher gets the students to read the books

2. Causative used have with man as object

S + have (has/had) + man + verb I

For example:

• Yesterday, I had Robik wash my car

• The teacher has the student read the books

3. Causative used get or have with thing as object

S + have/get + thing + verb III

For example:

• I get my motorcycle repaired.

NARRATIVE TEXT

It is text that telling a story.

Social function: To amuse, entertain and to deal with actual or vicarious experience in different way.

We have to know the generic structure for creating a text consists of:

1.Orientation : sets the scene and introduces the participants

2.Complication : a crisis arises

3.Events : event supporting a complication

3.Resolution : the crisis is resolved, for better or for worse

Here the example of narrative text:

Orientation	SNOW WHITE Once upon a time there lived a little girl named Snow White. She lived with her aunt and uncle her parent were dead
Complication	One day she heard her uncle and aunt talking about leaving Snow White in the castle because they both wanted to go to America and they didn’t have enough money to take Snow White.
Events	Snow White did not want her uncle and aunt to do this so she decided it would be best if she ran away. The next morning she ran away from home when her aunt and uncle were having breakfast. She ran away in the woods. She was very tired and hungry. Then she saw the little cottage. She knocked but no one answered so she went inside and fell asleep. Meanwhile, the seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There they found Snow White sleeping. Then Snow White wake up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said, “what is your name?” Snow White said, “My name is Snow White”.
Resolution	Doc said, “If you wish, you may live here with us”. Snow White said, “Oh could I? Thank you”. Then Snow White told the dwarf the whole story and Snow White and the 7 dwarf lived happily ever after.

The Loss of Engines

Two men were flying to Caracax from Sikago. Fifteen minutes into the flight, the captain announced, "One of the engines has failed and the flight will be an hour longer. But don't worry we have three engines left."

Thirty minutes later, the captain announced, "One more engine has failed and the flight will be two hours longer. But don't worry we have two engines left."

An hour later the captain announced, "One more engine has failed and the flight will be three hours longer. But don't worry we have one engine left."

One of the men looked at the other and said, "If we lose one more engine, we'll be up here all day."

Newspaper is easy to be got, everyday we can look it. You can read the Jakarta Pos. It can improve your English in vocabularies, grammar beside the information.

3. Listening on CD
You can buy CD about English Conversation it can help you to improve in speaking. The speaker have to a native speaker. Don’t you listen Indonesian speaker!
Remember that there is a man that has master in English but he cannot understand the basic listening comprehension by said of native speaker.

4. Going to Tourism Object
There are tourist object in Indonesia. Particularly, that have tourist invite there. For instance you invite Bali or the most famous in Bogor, is Bogor Botanical garden.
You can practice your English with the foreign tourist. Hunting Tourist!

5. Watching English film
It is important for you that have hobby watching a film whatever in the theater, television or DVD. You can got more change to listen the native speaker’s voices. And also your vocabularies. Furthermore, you stare at their face expression. It can help you to understand the purpose of their voices.

6. Reading the English story
It can help you to enhance you vocabularies, learn about grammar. I suggest you read some short story.

7. Singing the English songs
More you singing, more you remember the vocabularies. Though you cannot sing or your voices is quite fals. Singing in English practice your fluently voices and get your prestige.
